It is that time of year again. When people get sucked into the consumerism of the holidays instead of really focusing on what this time of year is truly about. When people start to take advantage of the whole idea of “gift giving” and unleash their true, selfish selves.
"I want this," and "I need that." Instead of thinking about all the things you want and hope you get for Christmas, you should be grateful for all the blessings you do have. You should consider the fact that the things you want are things you do not need and/or already have many things similar to it.
You should refocus yourself and this time of year on appreciating your family, friends, and loved ones. You should start to get your brain into the habit of thinking about how blessed your life in comparison to so many others, and not that sale you absolutely need to take advantage of.
Take a step back, breathe, and recenter yourself. I’m not saying this is something that will come easy. I’m just as guilty for putting too much of an emphasis on things that should not be focused on during this time of year (or in general for that matter). But I have always managed to pull myself out of that mindset before I get in too deep.
And that is why I can enjoy this time of year properly.
